The 20th of June represents World Refugee Day which is dedicated to honouring the courage, resilience and strength of refugees. This global attention not only focuses on the struggles refugees face and causes of their exile but on their determination and contribution they make to their new communities.
When Refugees arrive in New Zealand they spend six weeks the Refugee Resettlement Centre in Mangere before they are resettled. They have ongoing support from NZ Refugee Services qualified social workers, refugee background case workers, cross cultural workers and trained volunteers who work with arriving refugee families and individuals.
New Zealand brand Kowtow recognised their need and have created the Immolate T-Shirt, which for two weeks from the 20th June will be for sale online for $50.00.
$25 from each sale will be donated to NZ Red Cross and Refugee Services as Kowtow Director and Designer Gosia Piatek “Believes that the money is going towards direct positive change within our community.”
The Immolate Tee is made from 100% certified fair-trade organic cotton jersey and has been screen printed with water based inks which have been certified by the Global Organic Textile standard.
The person in this image is a female Tibetan monk who set herself alight in November 2011 in protest of the Chinese oppression against Tibet.
