Looks from Kowtow’s Winter 2017 collection.
Kowtow recently released their new collection for Winter 2017 on the heels of a busy 2016 which saw the ethical fashion brand turn ten in October last year. What began as a printed t-shirt label has blossomed into an international brand with owner Gosia Piatek noting that Kowtow now has over 200 stockists around the world this season.
Piatek has always been passionate about organic, ethical and sustainable living and this translates into minimalist clothing that has a European feel but is designed in Wellington and manufactured in India. Everything from the fabric to the finishings has been ethically and sustainably created or sourced with the brand still maintaining an accessible price which has allowed it to grow quickly.
The Winter collection is made up of three parts ‘Dreamscape’, ‘Paper Story’ and ‘The Long Way’ as well as their Building Block basic pieces. The collection riffs off of a subtle nautical theme inspired by photos of people fishing in heavy chambray and beanies which caught the designer’s eye. There are warm tones of burgundy, yellow, dusty pink and oatmeal to complement the navy, black, white and chambray. An abstract print is a beautiful feature of the Dreamscape story while the dotted Lost at Sea print features in Paper Story and classic chambray and white stripes feature in The Long Way.
The pieces have Kowtow’s signature clean silhouette and are cut to skim and flatter the body in a minimalist way making for very comfortable garments that are easy to style and wear. It’s no surprise that the brand’s effortless aesthetic blended with their strong principles and sustainable approach to fashion is making Kowtow a global name.
