Koha Apparel have launched an online shopping experience. Images by Tim Carter.
Koha Apparel launched an online shopping platform today which offers high quality clothing at affordable prices with the proceeds supporting the organisation’s important work in our communities. Koha Apparel’s mission has always been driven by a dual purpose; clothing those vulnerable in our community and diverting textiles from landfill. With this online offering they’re cleverly combining those purposes while supporting their pop-ups which utilise a pay-as-you-can (Koha) system that allows those struggling financially to access clean quality clothing. For those unable to pay, clothing is provided at no cost to them.
Koha’s new online store is driven by values of inclusivity and equal-access, striving to generate further avenues for the organisation’s community to grow and diversify. The garments for sale are styled and modelled by Koha’s volunteers with Kingsize Studios donating the equipment and studio space to shoot the online store images. The garments and accessories available include everything from footwear to tops, dresses, coats, jeans and more. Among the gems on offer are pieces from Karen Walker, RUBY, Georgia Alice and a number of other leading New Zealand brands.
For Koha this platform means they can engage their volunteers and communities in new ways whether that’s shopping, styling, modelling or simply engaging in the kōrero around more sustainable textile practices. It celebrates the diversity of Aotearoa while encouraging people to get involved however they are able to.
