Tips to make you 'red carpet ready'!
With Christmas rapidly approaching, it's time to add some glamour for the upcoming party season. Whether you choose the chic simplicity of a little black dress, or opt for head-to-toe metallic, there is no doubt that the perfect makeup job adds that extra polish.
Get your shine on: Shimmer powder is the must-have product of the party season. When dusted across cheekbones and eyes, it gives your evening makeup an instant lift. ]
Elizabeth Arden's new season range is called Everything Glows and this stunning selection includes a gorgeous shimmer powder that adds a soft and subtle sheen to your skin.
The compact is just as glamorous as the powder and it comes with a Kabuki-style brush that is perfect for dusting extra sparkle across your chest, arms and shoulders.
Sexy, smoky eyes: The most desirable evening look would have to be sexy, smoky eyes.
To create the perfect smouldering gaze, start by priming your eye lids with a creamy toned shadow, as this creates highlight while making the blending process easier.
The next step is to rim your eyes with a soft black kohl pencil, keeping it as close to the lash line as possible (a thicker line will result in a deeper smoky eye).
Now take a dark coloured shadow, such as charcoal, aubergine or navy and gently blend out the pencil line, adding more intensity as you go. One of my favourite shades for this job is MAC's 'Smut'- a clever cross between brown, black and purple.
A mid-toned shadow, such as a soft grey or beige is then blended into the socket to create contour. To give your smoky eyes extra punch, add a flash of colourful metallic shadow to the inner corners of the eye, or smudge it along the lower lid for instant drama.
Sparkle in her eye – If you are feeling brave, MAC offers stunningly intense metallics in their new 'Antiquitease' range. Mineralized eye shadow duos come in enticing shades of rich purple and deep red, through to silver-blue and yellow-gold.
Rim your eyes with the darkest shade, then blend the lighter tone through the crease of your eye for extra intensity. Compliment your shimmery eyes with a flush of blush and a rich, berry toned lipstick or go for a sheer, shimmery lip gloss.
Batting lashes – No evening makeup is complete without lashings of black mascara and L'Oreal's Telescopic provides you with the longest, thickest lashes imaginable. Take care to layer your mascara while it is still wet to avoid the dreaded 'clumping'.
Fake it – False eyelashes are the ultimate party accessory, as they instantly open up the eye. When you are applying false lashes, the trick is to apply the glue to the lashes first and let it set for a minute or so – this will ensure that they stay put for the whole night.
If you are using a coloured mascara in blue or purple, apply a coat of black first, otherwise your lashes will disappear in photographs.
Kiss me lips – Smoky eyes look great with sexy, buff toned lips.
For lipstick that lasts all night, begin by priming your lips with a touch of liquid foundation, then take a neutral lip liner and fill in your entire lip area.
You can then apply your lipstick, dab with a tissue and re-apply, followed by a touch of gloss. This process will stop your lipstick from bleeding, plus you won't leave as much on the rim of your champagne glass! Bobby Brown's new nude lipsticks are perfect for the job. Natural Beige and Uber Beige provide just enough colour and look fantastic when combined with a high shine gloss.
