Karen Walker has just released her latest collaboration with the United Nations ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative which includes two beach totes and a clutch purse. Walker has worked with the ETI since 2012 utilising their group of 7000 artisans to create handcrafted products which also benefit their makers.
By connecting fashion businesses and artisans, the Ethical Fashion Initiative harnesses fashion as a vehicle for development and helps change lives in many African countries. They work with the rising generation of fashion talent while encouraging the forging of ethical, sustainable and creative collaborations with artisans. Those workers are able to increase their skills and be paid a regular wage which helps improve their families lives and their communities.
For this project Walker worked with artisans from Kenya's Maasai and Samburu tribes to create the three bags in Walker's signature quirky style with her instantly recognisable runaway girl logo. The brightly coloured bags are made of 100% cotton canvas and feature detailed embroidery, glass beads and leather straps. You'll find them in Karen Walker stores and online now.
