Karen Walker‘s newest standalone store has just opened at the Ginza Six retail complex in the heart of Tokyo’s Ginza district. This is Walker’s sixth store although her clothing, jewellery, eyewear, homewares and accessories are stocked at hundreds of stockists around the globe.
This new flagship is set to be a one-stop shop for Karen Walker’s Tokyo fan base, with ready-to-wear, eyewear, jewellery and handbag collections, as well as special collaborations available to shoppers. New Zealand-based Katie Lockhart designed the new store’s interior as Lockhart has is a long-time collaborator of the brand and has designed all the other Karen Walker stores and stores-within-stores worldwide.
Ginza Six is where luxury shopping meets cutting-edge innovation and Japanese tradition, and it comprises of 241 stores, including ten LVMH Maisons and is spread over 47,000 square metres of retail space and 5 floors of office space. Those impressive numbers make it the largest commercial facility in the Ginza district and it was designed by Architect Yoshio Taniguchi, who is celebrated for his renovation and extension of MoMA in New York.
Ginza Six is expected to welcome 20 million visitors annually and the brilliant new hub is putting a strong emphasis on the arts and culture with a rich program directed by Fumio Nanjo, Director of the Mori Art Museum. Artworks will be exhibited throughout the complex, including an installation by Yayoi Kusama for the opening.
