Karen Walker has launched crocheted slippers in collaboration with Classic New Zealand. Images supplied.
In a perfectly timed Winter collaboration, Karen Walker has created some gorgeous bootie-shaped slippers with Classic New Zealand that are nostalgic in just the right way. Each pair was lovingly handcrafted by a team of four artisan crocheters in Hawke’s Bay using 100% New Zealand sheepskin and woollen yarn from Napier-based spinners Skeinz.
Available in bracken or cream wool these hand-crocheted slippers are also perfectly timed for Mother’s Day and feature a contrasting stripe and bow tie as well as a sheepskin upper. They have a soft leather sole that is great for being cosied up indoors and the fluffy inner feels like walking on a cloud. These luxurious slippers are a welcome show of support for New Zealand businesses and talent with the natural locally sourced materials showcasing enduring skills and playful, practical design. These slippers will be beloved by the wearer for many years to come.
While Karen Walker is a very familiar name to fashion fans you may not be as familiar with Classic New Zealand, who were established in 1969. They are the only sheepskin maker to source and produce 100% of their product entirely in New Zealand, earning them the FernMark™ certification. Classic New Zealand’s raw material is strictly sourced from Quality Assured Farms as a byproduct of the New Zealand free range meat farming system. Classic uses only organic compounds in the tanning process ensuring their sheepskin is 100% biodegradable and free from heavy metals and harmful chemicals. Their tannery in Napier produces home furnishings, footwear, personal care and infant products with each item created with passion, honesty and an eye for detail.
The Karen Walker x Classic New Zealand slippers are available online on Karen Walker’s website and Classic New Zealand’s website for $120 per pair.
