Eyewear from Karen Walker’s new Chess Club collection. Images supplied.
Karen Walker is no doubt the queen of cool eyewear and her latest collection called Chess Club proves once again that she has all the right moves. The new range features five entirely fresh, directional looks from a designer at the top of her eyewear game. The crown is undoubtedly Karen Walker’s and she is excited about celebrating strong, smart females.
“It’s the sexiness of the girl genius,” says Karen. “The one who chooses to isolate herself and spend lunch hour in the classroom bent over the board perfecting the King’s Gambit”.
The new frames of this collection play with cerebral themes and possess a clever geometry of their own making for a unique homage to quick minds and sharp intellects. Brilliant vintage throwbacks include a nod to the Cold War era of Spassky and Fischer, their froideur revived in the suitably squared off proportions of new key style Grandmaster in Crazy Tort with teal or in black acetate teamed with green mono.
Charming fifties proportions feature on the bold Checkmate frames in vintage-hued Seastorm with a teal tint, also translucent Crystal Madder that has brown rose graduated lenses and the classic black and smoke combination.
Another key style is Bishop, that clearly references the shape of the chess piece itself with a bold acetate frame that comes in black with smoke or teal lenses and a new colorway: Crystal Sunray with steel tint.
Alongside the appealing acetates, are the sleek new wire frames including new style Queen, that expands the seventies butterfly heart in a delicate, filigree metal frame and barely-there dusk colors: Golden Light with steel or Crazy Tort with madder tinted lenses. The second wire frame style is Game that has a modern sportiness and is also available in Crazy Tort and Golden Light.
