Jojo Ross recently released her latest collection for Spring/Summer 18/19 called ‘Days Long Past’. The designer began creating it at the end of a very long and hard year with Jojo taking a somewhat different approach to the range. “I had an extreme sense of not wanting to think and to just design something fresh, calm, comfortable, relaxed, and unusually for me.. maybe a little familiar,” says Jojo. “The final range is a collection of flashes of the past… Days Long Past. Memories of people, holidays, incidents and those little insignificant things that somehow stick with you.”
The result is a cohesive collection that has a minimalist feel and the designer’s signature sharp tailoring with sculptural elements. Amongst the monochromatic colour palette is a soft botanical print that is nostalgic for Jojo and inspired by her grandmother and many days spent exploring her vast country garden. While the hectopascal print and the striped linen is a nod to Jojo’s grandfather’s sailing days and ever present obsession with the weather, which runs in her family. The designer also referenced an important piece of her childhood in the form of the classic pedal pusher. Although her update is somewhat more restrained than her childhood version which featured embroidered butterflies.
Light natural fabrics feature in this range with soft linen and lusturous silk cotton among Jojo Ross’ favoured fabrications. She has used industrial finishings and sculptural shapes to add to the modern feel of the collection which also carries on her established style. Jojo’s go-to pieces for this season are the Happy Days hoodie and the Quick Dip rib dress – the latter being an easy to wear summer essential. “I also love wearing the Memory Palace Jacket and Memory Tee in Green Garden – while seemingly extreme I find them really easy to wear daily with the grey suiting pieces – the holiday pants and souvenir skirt,” adds Jojo.
