Maison diptyque is celebrating its sixtieth anniversary by releasing a luxe new fragrance called Orphéon. It’s named after an unforgettable place in the Saint-Germain quarter of Paris during the 1960s. In the warm atmosphere of this late-night bar, people would linger to enjoy rhythmic jazz melodies and artistic friendships. Here you would find curls of tobacco smoke, powdery trails of blusher and the comfort of burnished wood.
But why this bar? Orphéon was the late-night bar adjoining the boutique where diptyque’s founders like to meet to discuss ideas and share thoughts, pulling together their creativity to bring us some of the beloved fragrances we know today. diptyque’s owners ended up buying the Orphéon to expand their boutique and sixty years on, it continues to shine at the heart of the shop in Paris’s Left Bank.
Created by diptyque and perfumer Olivier Pescheux, diptyque’s latest fragrance, Orphéon, is a composition like an olfactory memory, where the warmth of the tonka bean meets the depth of cedar and the vivacity of juniper berries. The comforting scent of burnished wood on the bar and counter tables, the curls of tobacco smoke, the aroma of gin and cocktails and the trailing perfumes of men and women who frequented the Orphéon where the creative notes pulled together to help form this perfume with its raw materials of cedar, tonka bean, jasmine and juniper berries.
Diptyque’s Orphéon is available now for $271 exclusively at MECCA stores.
