Following on from the debut of their underwear collection back in June, Allbirds have released their first tees made from TrinoXO this week. The new material formulation combines the brand’s existing Trino blend used for their underwear and made from tree and merino fibres, which is then spun with Chitosan (a naturally occurring fibre derived from crab shells) to create an innovative and super soft fabrication.

It’s the first time that pure Chitosan fibre been used at this kind of scale in apparel, and as the fibres are derived from a waste stream, it continues Allbirds’ commitment to sustainability. Interestingly, Chitosan is the second most abundant biopolymer on earth (chitin) and keeps the wearer naturally fresh meaning less washing which is also good for our planet.

The TrinoXO tees are Oeko-Tex 100 certified and are on track to be the first ever MSC-certified piece of apparel, yet another achievement for Allbirds, who are continually innovating in the sustainability and technical arenas. The tees are available in three classic colours of grey, white and black and have launched with three limited edition colours, orchid, forest and sungold. They’re available now in Allbirds stores and online for $80.
