Ingrid Starnes has looked to the infinitely talented David Bowie as inspiration for the designer’s new Spring/Summer 2018/19 collection called ‘Stars Crushing Out’. Starnes was reading ‘David Bowie: A life’ by Dylan Jones during the design process of her range and was reflecting on the late singer’s life as an artist, how he reinvented and redefined himself during his lifetime. She also contemplated ‘the passing of people; the symbols they become, how special they are, how complicated they can be…’
The result is a mesmerising collection that is deceptively simple on the surface but layered with thoughtful details. Starnes’ pieces have always had a vintage-inspired feel yet she makes each look modern and an instant classic in its own right. Her signature is beautiful tailoring that means each garment sits just so and layers perfectly. She mixes detailed floral prints with delicate lace, luxurious silk and breathable linen for clothing that is as lovely to wear as it is to look at.
This season’s colour palette is a winsome mix of cornflower blue, pink, plum, rust, umber and navy that are teamed with neutrals for an elegant effect. Starnes has perfected her juxtaposition of ladylike shapes with masculine styles which has a timeless appeal. Her collections are carefully considered and make office to evening dressing a joy. The designer also offers made-to-order workwear for those who want a sophisticated professional look.
