iD Dunedin Fashion Week has announced a new look for 2018 with a shake-up of its schedule that will see the event centred around the iD International Emerging Designers Show that will be held in May at the Dunedin Town Hall. Previous years have seen a major show at the Dunedin Railway Station but after a strategic review the event has repositioned the Emerging show as the future of the event. 2018 will also see a new team for iD Dunedin led by Dr Margo Barton from the Otago Polytechnic School of Design who believes the change in focus will see the event into the future.

“The feedback from the strategic review pointed overwhelmingly towards growing the Emerging show and we are well on the way to creating an inspiring and dynamic event that showcases the exceptional innovation and creativity from the world’s best emerging designers,” says Dr Barton. No other emerging designer awards event in the world is open to the public and allows such an intimate look at the future of fashion. Heading into our 14th year of the Awards, the event has an incredible global reach and is attracting applications from around the world.”

The 2018 Emerging show will be held over two nights at the Dunedin Town Hall with a judging night on Thursday May 3 and a gala evening held on Friday May 4. The event has major funding from Dunedin City Council as it also draws many fashion fans to Dunedin to enjoy the festivities of the fashion week. To continue to support local designers, runway shows will be held before the Emerging show with the 2018 call out for designers to be made in the coming weeks. An impressive 170 entries have been received from 22 countries and 56 fashion schools for the 2018 Emerging show.

A new look identity image created by Luke Johnston from BrandAid and photographer Emily Hlavac Green also adds to the new version of iD Dunedin. The beautiful image was shot at dawn along Heyward Point Road and features garments from a local emerging designer. 2018 is set to be the most exciting year for iD Dunedin yet.
