iD Dunedin Fashion Week today reveals a stellar line-up of iconic Kiwi labels and exciting new designer talent to take to the runway for its 16th anniversary event in April 2015.

Thirteen New Zealand and one Chinese label have been selected to show their winter collections at the flagship runway event held at Dunedin’s historic Railway Station on Friday April 24 and Saturday April 25.

Dunedin-based iD crowd favourites NOM*d, Mild-Red, Carlson, Company of Strangers, Charmaine Reveley, DADA Vintage will return to the iD runway, joined by Auckland-based label Storm. Capsule collections will be shown by Perriam, Deval, GG (Shanghai), Liann Bellis, BEATS clothing, Jason Lingard and Jane Sutherland.

The shows will also include collections from an international guest designer (yet to be named), the iD Emerging Designer Awards winners, highlights from Otago Polytechnic’s graduate fashion designers, and for the first time a new section in which all participating designers will design a one-off creation from leathers and suede provided by deer leather specialists, New Zealand Light Leathers.

This year’s designer selector, Carolyn Enting, Associate Editor of MiNDFOOD says, “There was a wide spread of entries from designers from Auckland, Blenheim, Wanaka and Queenstown, and even one from China.

“Normcore was a distinct trend – showing a move towards tailoring and cool classics and an unfussy aesthetic. Many of the collections favoured clean lines and bold silhouettes.

“Innovation in design was another strong theme with some designers presenting garments and accessories that can be worn or styled multiple ways enabling the wearer to change up an outfit to make it more daywear or glamorous depending on the occasion.

“Layering was also a strong theme that saw chunky knits and leather worn over fine merino, in mostly black. However, that doesn’t mean it will be all black on the runway, far from it. There was also a use of bold colour, patterned fabrics and sporty trims. This show will definitely not be boring.

“The overall standard of entries was very high. The high standard of entries meant a tough job for the pre-selection but the good news is that ultimately makes for another great show in 2015. I have no doubt it will be an exciting catwalk show that will inspire.”

Tickets to the hugely popular runway shows will go on sale on December 12th.
