Huffer’s closing show of New Zealand Fashion Week 2016.
We were counting on Huffer to close New Zealand Fashion Week 2016 with a bang as the last trade show of the week and they were certainly on form. The Britomart atrium was the setting for their massive runway show which saw two Audis and Auckland’s hazy weather form the perfect backdrop for Huffer’s Autumn/Winter 2017 “Local” collection that had us hooked from the start.
As M.I.A.’s “Go Off” reverberated around the space two twin girls in pastel pink and blue puffer jackets and white skinny jeans stomped down the stairs and across the runway with plenty of attitude. Huffer are celebrating locals with their new range and included their own locals amongst the models that took to the runway. It’s hard to believe the brand is nearly 20 years old now, founded in 1997, and this collection was classic Huffer with lots of denim, tees, skirts, hoodies and jackets in their signature cool streetwear style.
The soft pastel tones and oatmeal also featured on boxy coats, hoodies and sweaters that were either matched together or juxtaposed with black and white gingham for a fun effect. Playful dresses, casual sweats and mini-skirts kept the look young and fun, while we loved the retro-style Huffer lettering on tees and hoodies. Quilted black jackets and wide-lapel coats added a high fashion feel while quirkiness came in the form of round badges which were grouped together on collars and shoulders. Beloved local model Penny Pickard closed the show in a black bomber jacket and short shorts with towering black heels for a look that was sexy and effortlessly cool.
Huffer are definitely heading into their twentieth year stronger than ever and we’re excited to watch their further expansion into Australia which is happening in October this year – best of luck to Steve Dunstan and team. Huffer certainly finished off fashion week with one of the best shows they’ve ever done and a killer after party which was the last in their Queen Street basement store. NZFW 2016 has been a blast and we can’t wait for NZFW 2017!
