How To: Wear a cotton suit for Race Day

Spring is in the air!

Temperatures are starting to warm up, the animals are procreating, and it's just about time to shelve those parkas, scarves and woollen sweaters for another year.

Which means it's also just about time to embrace a revolutionary concept in men's style: The cotton suit.

The cotton suit is much like your typical woollen suit, only it's made from cotton, you can dress it up with a shirt.

Don't forget your accessories — namely, a similarly matte cotton pocket square, and you'll be good to go.

There's something extremely Italian and louche about a lightweight, unstructured cotton sportcoat, and this one here is a prime example of the form.

It's virtually weightless so you can wear it through the summer, and that subtle check will elevate any muted combination you throw at it — but don't let that stop you from rocking some pattern on pattern.

Here, we paired it with a textured blue shirt, a polka dot pocket square, a brown leather belt, and the same pants from the navy cotton suit.

Like the suit, you can go all out with a button-down and knit tie — hello, RACE DAY — or do like we did and undo a couple of buttons and walk out the door.

Can't argue with the results!
