How to turn your home into a day spa

How to turn your home in to a day spa

By now I’m sure, like me, you are all going a little stir-crazy in your homes and missing some of the luxuries we are blessed with in our normal lives. Spending money on beauty treatments is a treat for many and a weekly ritual for some, but no matter how important pampering yourself is, we all deserve a little TLC now and then and just because most facets of our lives have changed so much recently, doesn’t mean your beauty rituals have to as well. Going to the beauty salon or having beauty therapy treatments done doesn’t always mean having to leave the house, in fact- you will be surprised at how easy it is to bring the beauty salon to you. So, I have rounded up a list of common beauty treatments and how you can achieve them from the comfort of your own home.

Give yourself a wax
I usually wouldn’t recommend this, but hard times call for hard measures and those overgrown parts of your body that haven’t had a date with your waxing therapist in about a month now will thank you for it. If you’re not a fan of the razor and you don’t mind self-inflicting a bit of pain then wax strips are probably going to be your safest bet. Do not, I repeat, do NOT try hard wax, it is not worth the pain and trouble of ripping it off. And unless you’re already a pro waxer, I also wouldn’t recommend going the whole hog “downstairs,” perhaps just start with your bikini line, legs or underarms.

Get your glow on
Who says having a bronzed, golden glow had to be achieved only in summer and by spending lots of time outdoors? Even if you are accustomed to having regular salon-quality spray tans, I’ll bet you can still achieve that same glamourous glow from the comfort of your own home. You just need to have the right products to do so. I am a fan of the Bondi Sands range, specifically their foams. Just add in a tanning mitt for a more smooth and even coverage and to avoid having Oompa loompa hands afterwards.

Polish up those pearly whites
Going to the dentist is an expensive and invasive task, even if you are just going to get your pearly whites buffed and polished. So, to avoid the unnecessary expense and the obvious problem of not being able to access professional teeth whitening services at this time, I would recommend getting your hands on an at-home teeth whitening kit. There are many different options and they are really easy to use and the best part? You can sit on your couch, in your jammies, watching Netflix instead of being in a dentist chair. Genius!

Treat yourself with an at-home gel manicure kit
When you can’t go to the nail salon, bring the nail salon to you! At-home gel manicure kits are a thing now and they are easier to use than you think. It’s pretty much the same concept as getting your nails done at the salon by a nail technician but you’re just doing it yourself. You can order kits online and there are a few different options with different price points.

At-home face peel
The concept of a face peel tends to make you think of a cosmetic peel that you would get with a professional skincare therapist but the truth is, there are many different kinds you can use and not all of them are heavy-hitting, so they won’t all burn you and turn your skin red. There are some gradual at-home peels that you can do over a 4 week period such as the Elizabeth Arden Prevage Progressive Renewal Treatment which is a step-up system. It comes with 4 vials which you use over a week per vial and it has a step-up system, which means the formula gives you stronger levels of the AHA acid each vial. You might get a bit of skin purging and some dry skin flaking off at the beginning but once your skin gets used to the treatment, it is said to reveal more even skin tone, brighten and reduce the appearance of lines.

Full body detox ritual
This full-body therapy treatment is simple to do at home, you’ll just need to spend a little money to buy the products, but it is so worth it. Start with a full-body dry brush then have a nice hot shower or bath and exfoliate with a body scrub, my pick is the Dermalogica Thermafoliant body scrub, then for an added touch of luxury, you could slather your skin on a body oil, like the Dermalogica Phyto Replenish body oil and finish with a lush smelling moisturiser. By the end of this treatment, your blood flow and circulation will be increased, your skin will be rid of dead skin build-up and will be soft, smooth and smelling like heaven.

Create your own beauty products
Creating your own beauty products such as hand creams, face masks and body treatments is so easy to achieve without having to purchase any additional ingredients. I have composed a few lists recently with step by step guides on how to do just that using ingredients from your kitchen and garden.
