We sat down with Angela for a chat about her new book, her career and of course the world of fashion and modelling!
What made you decide to write the book now?
I have always enjoyed passing on my knowledge and experience to those aspiring to work in the industry. Having worked in the industry for such a long time I have gained so much knowledge on both sides of the camera.
What do you do think is one of the hardest things about getting in to the modelling industry?
I think it’s having the confidence and the ‘know how’ of what to do when modelling. It’s so important to understand how the industry works and what you need to do to stand out. You can’t wait for it to happen you have to put yourself into the industry and make it happen.
Can you tell our readers about your career so far?
I was a very enthusiastic young model who realised at a very young age that I was able to work in the industry and pass on what I learnt. I travelled and learnt so much along the way. Working with different agencies gave me a big insight to the industry and how it works. I came back to New Zealand at age 21 with a big passion for fashion.
What was something you wish you knew when you started modelling, that you know now?
Not everyone has the vision like you do. You have to make things happen for yourself sometimes. Making decisions about what you want is important.
What are 4 tips you can give our readers who aspire to get into the modelling world?
It’s a commitment. Dream big because dreams do come true. Have a vision and go for it. Always put your health and beliefs first.
What do you think makes a successful model?
An amazing attitude, clients will book you because of your inner being – this shows through. Have a plan and focus on the important things. A happy and connected person always looks good in photographs.
