Eco surfwear label Gemma Lee has gone from strength to strength since launching in 2018 with the brand announcing a partnership with Suzuki this month. Gemma Lee was founded by Wellington based designer Gemma Cornish with the brand reflecting her love of the ocean and vibrant colours. Gemma Lee’s wetsuit and swimwear ranges are also a reflection of the designer’s sustainability values with her products created solely out of environmentally friendly and sustainable materials.

Suzuki New Zealand recently partnered with Gemma Lee in support of the fast-growing business with the partnership mutually beneficial to both brands.  Sharing and collaborating on content about the collection and Gemma’s stunning new Suzuki ‘Jimny’ vehicle will be a focus of the partnership between the two.

Gemma Lee’s collections are a surfer’s dream with the colourful designs a celebration of femininity and coastal/beach inspiration that are targeted at the large female surfing community across both New Zealand and Australia. A watersports fan herself, Gemma identified a gap in the market for female wetsuits that are playful and colourful in eco-conscious designs as most wetsuits are typically plan. In creating her designs Gemma wanted them to be a statement that the ocean is our playground and should also be protected.

“I design collections using colours and combinations that give us feelings of the invincible summer, so that one look at our suits evokes feelings of joy, happiness, playfulness, and an abundance of energy,” says Gemma Cornish. “As a designer, my world is a colourful one! I design mostly from colour psychology, and play with shades of colours and colour combinations until they evoke a certain emotion inside of me, and then I know that’s the one!”
