Summer is all about easy to wear pieces and they don’t come much simpler or quick to throw on than the slip dress. Unlike some other 90s trends that have made their way back into fashion in recent seasons, the slip dress has been around in some form or other in many collections over the years and is a firm favourite of those who love the underwear as outerwear look. The name slip dress comes from the fact that the dress looks like a slip, the kind that were traditionally worn under heavier dresses for many years and are often cut on the bias to give the garment its feminine shape.
We’re all for natural fabrics and Glasson’s Linen Blend Midi dress is a lightweight and breathable choice for warmer days. Its simple but sensual with slits up the sides and a tie at the back for creating more shape.
Ruby’s 10PM Slip has the most beautiful floral print which is a collaboration with The Daily Splice and makes this gorgeous ruffle-hemmed slip even more covetable. Ok, so it’s technically part of Ruby’s new sleepwear collection, but we think it’s far too pretty to be saved for wearing at home.
We can’t help but think how fun it would be to shimmy in Kate Sylvester’s sublime Brana Slip dress which has great ruffle details and cross-over straps at the back. The styling with a top underneath is much like how slip dresses were often worn in the 90s and definitely works for this great look.
Twenty-seven Names excel at delivering high-quality garments that are perfectly cut and finished and the TSN girls are also big fans of the 90s too which shows in this sweet Lily Slip dress with a charming blue and white floral print. This is the perfect casual summer dress whether you’re going shopping, socialising or heading to the beach.
Be still my beating heart, the Xanthe Slip dress by We Are Kindred is oh so covetable and a really elegant take on the style with its delicate filigree floral pattern and covered buttons down the sides. This dress has splits up the sides for ease of movement and is definitely the most romantic of these looks.
Moochi can always be relied upon for a cool, modern take on a trend and their answer to the slip dress is the Vapour dress in sapphire which has a subtle cowl back detail. Its relaxed shape and split at the back make it a really comfortable but stylish choice for the warm weather.
We can’t go past Next’s White Maxi dress from Ezibuy which has lovely crochet detailing and trim and is a wonderful choice for the beach. White is such a good choice to keep you cool in summer and the maxi length makes this dress versatile and easily dressed up a bit more if the need arises.
The Samoa Dress by Staple the Label has an earthy feel aided by its raw-edged finish and natural sandy tone. This is such a good holiday dress and it’s all too tempting to book a flight somewhere tropical to be able to wear it on a white sand beach. But then we think any of these slip dresses would be wonderful to wear this summer.
