It’s all so exciting, but there’s always this element of risk. It’s a job that absolutely lacks security and stability.
Firstly, I’ll begin with Murray used to be my boss! I worked at Showroom 22 for two years and loved everything I learnt about the industry- so much so that I’m still in the same industry 5 years later. He’s now a friend and inspiration – so I thank him for teaching me his ways, and how to remain calm in such a fast-paced industry! It’s beautiful chaos really…
Styling has always made me feel powerful, I think that’s why I’ve always loved it. It’s my external personality, my confidence – it’s how I share myself with all of you on a daily basis without having to say anything at all. I never thought it would lead to where it has today, tears were shed last month when we worked with Louis Vuitton and Gucci in the same month. It’s funny because as these partnerships are growing and Instagram is starting to feel like the real deal, our craving for peace and balance is also growing. My husband and I actually live in Piha, a beach town near enough to the city but far enough to disconnect when we need to. This balance has always been a top priority for me if I was ever going to work on Instagram full time – which I do today.
We travel a lot for work, but our goal is to make this even more frequent and connect with more international brands along the way. It helps that my husband is a photographer and creative so we have the freedom to live where we want and on our own schedule. This has allowed us to spend the NZ winter in Bali for the last two years — which led to a whole new creative inspiration and new connections.
We honestly don’t know what the new year holds, but If we can learn to balance a family, travel, a home and (a lot of!) fashion into our life then I’m on route for achieving some lifelong goals. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt, this industry is forever growing and changing, so we’ll see where life takes us…
