Our hearts are aflutter over this season’s tartan inspiration.
We’re not sure whether it’s the Scottish clan vibes, the nostalgic throwback to late ’70s punk, or glam Burberry and Gucci tartan suiting recently strutting the runway that has set our heart racing, but we’re embracing the confident attitude that tartan imparts.
Having survived (and thrived) through the decades, the iconic tartan design has a timeless appeal and has resurfaced in many creative guises (think Vivienne Westwood, Madonna, Alexander McQueen).
While many argue the definition of tartan to include plaid, check, and even gingham, tartan is staunchly defined as woollen cloth woven in patterns of colour checks and intersecting lines.
We’ve taken a little liberty with the true definition of tartan (apologies to tartan purists) to include plaid and the distinctive Kowtow ribbon print, but the original inspiration runs strongly through these choices.
