Fashion Guide to Summer

Stephen Marr’s superstar stylist Lauren Gunn, and colour expert Amanda Preston gave me the scoop all things awesome for the summer and gave me the ‘so hot right now’ do for brunettes this season.

Lauren Gunn says:

We have Alexa Chung to thank for the explosion of the dip-dye craze.  Just like the topknot last summer, this look is so-hot-right-now! Balayage is a French coloring technique where lighter, deeper colors are smudged into the roots of the hair and lighter tones are hand painted throughout the ends to create a seamless graduation of colour.

What’s hot for blondes?
Lauren: For blondes it’s all about the 90's surfer girl with a little grunge sneaking in there – owing to the influence of style icons like Courtney Love, Gwen Stefani and Emma Balfour.  A messy mix-up of milky and buttery blondes is the look to go for. Set you hair by plaiting some random sections and applying heat with your blowdryer then comb it out with your fingers. Busting out the heavy black eyeliner when the sun goes down is a must.

Red heads?
Lauren: Reds should have a slightly unreal feel to them, a cross between sex siren and 50's housewife. Joan Holloway of cult series ‘Madmen’ ought to be every redhead girl's muse.

How would you recommend looking after your hair through the summer months?
Lauren: Lavish your hair with tender loving care, take a bottle of fresh water to the beach with you to splash over your head after an ocean swim and treat yourself to regular infusions to keep your locks silky and soft. Focus on cuticle health, this means keeping the pH of your hair in balance and infusing small molecular proteins, vitamins and lipids. Stephen Marr has an infusion service to die for specially designed to resuscitate even the most impoverished of hair.

If you are keen to change up your look this season be sure to take good care of your locks. Try these goodies I'm in love with …

Kerastase
After blonding your locks, although they may look kick ass you will need to step up the care and moisture. This range made my hair incredibly light and silky. Focus the conditioning treatment on the ends and they'll thank you. (Actually speaking hair not included!)

Joico Colour Endure
If you're playing around with blonde shades this season you will want to keep those brassy tones at bay. Keep the trusty Joico Violet duo on hand. Use once – twice a week.
