You would be hard pressed not to have heard of RevitaLash®, the successful lash conditioner that was launched in the USA in 2006. What you may not know is that the original formula was created by Dr. Michael Brinkenhoff, an ophthalmologist, after his wife Gayle was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32. He developed the restorative lash conditioner as lash weakness and loss is a side-effect of chemotherapy, and he knew that helping his wife look better would help her feel a bit better too. His formula was a success and led to RevitaLash becoming a business, which also gave Gayle something to focus on during the decade she battled cancer before passing away in 2014.
It’s family that is at the heart of RevitaLash and Michael and Gayle’s daughter Dariel Sidney joined the company early on, later becoming Vice President of International Sales and Marketing. It has been an intensely personal but incredibly rewarding journey working on RevitaLash and Dariel drew inspiration from her mother’s courage and grace in the face of cancer and wanted to share RevitaLash with as many people as possible.
“Mum had always, had amazing lashes and beautiful brows, when she lost them she lost confidence and self-esteem,” says Dariel Sidney. “Everybody then asked what she was using, as she had just gone through treatment. This included neighbours, friends, aunts and news spread like wildfire. It made them think, maybe we could do something with this.”
“We sat around the kitchen table with yellow pads and pens trying to come up with a name and we had all these names. My mum thought about what it did and just said ‘Revita Lash’ and we put down our pens and thought that’s it. When you step forward when you meet someone, it’s the first thing you see – their lashes and brows. They say eyes are the windows to the soul.”
Dariel launched the International Sales Department for RevitaLash in 2009 when their family business began to expand into the international market. She has been instrumental in its overseas success and RevitaLash is now sold in 62 countries across six continents with continued plans for expansion.
RevitaLash Cosmetics currently produces a range of eyelash and brow conditioners suitable for use by women and men. Products available to date include RevitaLash® Advanced, RevitaBrow® Advanced, RevitaLash® Volumizing Mascara, RevitaLash® Volumizing Primer, RevitaLash® Fine Line Primer, RevitaLash® Spotlight Highlighting Pencil, and RevitaLash Raven 12 Hour Eyeliner. It is sold in a variety of salons and spas that offer eyelash extensions as damage can easily result from badly maintained lashes and lashes and RevitaLash® is perfect for restoring dry and brittle lashes.
Recently, Dariel and Lori Jacobus, Chief Marketing Officer for RevitaLash, were in New Zealand to support Annemarie Mason who heads RevitaLash Cosmetics here under Kiara Cosmetics. The trio hosted events and finalised an important upcoming initiative for RevitaLash later in 2018. For Dariel, it’s important to be able to continue her mother’s legacy and share her father’s work with RevitaLash with the world.
RevitaLash‘s products are available at salons, spas, beauty therapy clinics, department stores and specialty retailers across New Zealand.
