Once again it’s that exciting time of year when the Westpac Young Fashion Designer Competition celebrates and champions New Zealand’s most promising student fashion designers.
In its fourth year it’s New Zealand’s premier launch pad for emerging and high potential fashion designers with competition open to students who are completing the final year of a New Zealand fashion based tertiary course, or have graduated from a New Zealand fashion based tertiary course within the last four years.
At stake is a career changing fashion prize pack which not only includes NZ$5000, a coveted internship at Zambesi plus all the business banking advice you’ll need to get started from Westpac, but also three young designers will also earn the opportunity to show their own collections during New Zealand Fashion Week.
Last year, 21-year-old Jack Hill, a Bachelor of Design (Fashion) student at Massey University in Wellington, came out on top after two rounds of judging and almost 10,000 public votes.
Aspiring designers have until 8pm on Wednesday 7 August 2013 to enter a portfolio of three looks, along with a brief biography, plus a paragraph on how they would put the practical prize package to work for their future.
Entries are submitted via the Westpac Young Fashion Designer Competition official Facebook page.
The ten most outstanding entries as chosen by a panel of industry experts will be uploaded to the Westpac Young Fashion Designer Competition official Facebook page, where the public will be encouraged to vote online for their favourite young designer.
To win, Westpac is looking a young designer that demonstrates real potential, passion, vision and a strong aesthetic sense, one who is capable of creating inspiring and original clothes that have impact on the runway, without forsaking wearability.
The three young designers who amass the most public votes by Sunday 25 August will travel to Auckland to present their mini-collections during New Zealand Fashion Week in the first week of September. In front of the judging panel and an audience of fashion industry icons and insiders, media and invited guests, the Westpac Young Fashion Designer Competition winner for 2013 will be announced!
