Wellington’s Week of Fashion

  Moochi Opening Showcase 2014

New Zealand’s stylish little capital will be upping the chic stakes this week as Wellington Fashion Week begins in the city today.  A great line-up of local labels, both established and emerging will display their collections in five days of shows and events that are also open to the public.

Unlike New Zealand Fashion Week which is primarily a trade show featuring collections a season ahead, Wellington Fashion Week will be showcasing many current season collections which are available in stores now.  It’s the perfect way to get inspired for the winter season and then be able to shop the looks from local brands that celebrate kiwi style.

Starting with an opening showcase by Moochi and the official opening party tonight, which is just a taste of things to come, tomorrow sees a full day of events including solo shows from Highnoontea, Taylor Boutique and crowd favourites Ruby and Liam. The first group show is also on Thursday with Trelise Cooper leading a list of designers keen to show their Autumn/Winter collections.

Friday sees an afternoon designer selection show with the likes of Kingan Jones and Vaughn Geeson showing, followed by the second group showcase featuring Robyn Mathieson among others. The day is capped off by a presentation from industry stalwart Jane Daniels in a show sure to find favour with her many fans.

The weekend sees a full schedule of shows, with The Carpenters Daughter and Weddings show on Saturday afternoon.  The third group show features Surface Too Deep, Philippa & Alice and Love Hotel among others presenting their collections.  Rounding off Saturday night is The Light Leather Fashion Design Awards Show which will see 10 designers display their creativity to win prizes.

Sunday sees Storm present a solo show before iconic department store Kirkaldies & Stains showcases a selection of looks from their leading labels including Carlson and Sabatini.  The weekend ends in inimitable style with World presenting their collection in their signature dramatic fashion before the week ends with a chic closing party.

Sound like enough fashion to get you inspired for winter?  We think so too and there is more than enough on the schedule to find a show to please everyone.  Tickets are selling quickly as you can imagine so don’t miss out on Wellington’s most stylish week of the year.
