Ovna Ovich NZFW 2017

Ovna Ovich NZFW 2017

Finale at Ovna Ovich’s New Zealand Fashion Week 2017 show.

We loved Ovna Ovich’s elegant presentation as part of the K’ Road show at last year’s New Zealand Fashion Week so were keen to see what the brand had in store for us this year. Designer Marina Davis has built her label on ethical principles and for her Season Nine collection called ‘Tread Softly’ Davis implores us to consider the origins of what we wear and the footprint of our fashion choices.

Her NZFW show took place on a runway splattered with mustard, steel blue and grey paint which were hues also reflected in her collection. Sister duo, Purple Pilgrims, serenaded the audience with their dreamy pop songs as the models took to the runway barefoot in Ovna Ovich’s next season collection.

The opening look was comprised of a simple but chic black sweater with a button front maxi skirt that was softly gathered from the hips. It perfectly set the tone for the understated but entirely covetable collection to come.

Davis juxtaposed clean lines with soft ruffles for dresses, tops and skirts that were contemporary and relaxed in fit. Ribbed knits were skilfully constructed into body-skimming wide-legged jumpsuits that had a nostalgic feel with a modern twist. Longline and short coats in simple masculine shapes made for sophisticated looks that were tied at the waist. We loved the ruched sleeve blouses teamed with pinafore dresses that had a prairie meets city feel.

The pared back colour palette of black, grey, ivory and steel blue was beautifully complemented by mustard and olive that were particularly effective in matching pieces. We couldn’t go past the seventies-style high-waisted denim and prim collared coats. This was a self-assured and very appealing collection from Ovna Ovich.

Beauty notes: Neutral faces and soft lips by Blair Gamblin for MAC Cosmetics.

Soundtrack: Purple Pilgrims were perfection and we loved their wonderful live set.

Hot item: Everything ruffled and all the coats.
