Miro: NZFW 2011's Front of House

If you attended any shows (or even made it anywhere near the venue, or saw him on TV?) you may have spotted an overly tall, dark and handsome fellow dressed in a series of sharp looking suits.

He may even have directed you to a seat – maybe even the front row?

But who is this self-titled 'President of the Universe’?  It's Miro, NZFW 2011's imported Front of House.

As seating director and front of house manager for some of the world's largest fashion events (New York, Paris, Berlin, Sydney, etc) he's becoming a bit of a face himself.

While having to catch a 7am flight after the wrap party, I managed to catch up with him beforehand for a quick chat on some of the ins and outs of his enigmatic role.

Can you give us a brief overview of what it is exactly you do?

I'm a seating director of various Fashion Weeks, what that means is I control and manage who sits where and the different eventualities that comes with it.

And what is the best part of your job?

The best part is all the interesting people I meet while working. Over the years I've made friends with lot of very interesting people from different fields – celebrities, sport, TV, movies, fashion, media etc.

Breaking into the international Fashion Week circuit must have been a big jump, how did you get involved?

What I do is quite specialised and there are not many people in the world that would do what I do, so with that, you just slowly build a reputation in the field and off you go.

My first break came from my dear friend Jarrad Clark, who is global event director for IMG Fashion and also now judge on Project Runway Australia.

He invited me to Hong Kong to manage seating for Luxury week couple of years ago, and from that moment on, I was fortunate enough to get more and more opportunities like that.

Which of all the Fashion Weeks you attend is your favourite?

That always changes – different country, different people, different culture. I enjoyed New Zealand a lot but I have a special bond with Australian Fashion Week, but you know, I love what I do no matter where I am…

So what was the best part about NZ Fashion Week?

To be able to do things my own way and implement all aspects of what we do in to it, I love when organisers (owner of the event), entirely trust me, that makes my life and work much easier – and I got that support in NZ from Myken and Pieter – they're great people to work with.

And any goss you'd care to share?

Hahaha, if I was in business of sharing goss, I would be out of business by now. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes, but all those secrets are safe with me…
