Haryono Setiadi
Stellar weather greeted the third day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia with the sunshine and warm temperatures creating the perfect atmosphere for a day of stunning summer collections.
First up was Haryono Setiadi who showed off-site in a stark white space which was a great backdrop for his modern collection in a rainbow of beautiful hues. Clever use of sheer fabrics was a key feature on mini-length dresses and separates to dreamy effect.
Dion Lee
Clean and fresh was the look at Dion Lee II, who also showed off-site in an industrial warehouse space. His signature cut-out details, open back shirts and relaxed silhouettes translated well to a contemporary collection in mostly primary colours. Clever use of deconstructed jackets as belts and draped thigh high splits added interest to his very wearable collection.
Suboo
Bright and breezy, Suboo, showed a resort and swimwear collection contrasting monochromatic stripes with vibrant graphic prints. Zip details and cut-outs added a sexy edge to mini-length dresses and separates with higher necklines keeping things elegant.
Lan Yu
Lan Yu’s couture gowns are called upon to dress the top celebrities in China and it was easy to see why in her exquisite showcase, which also made her the first Chinese designer to show at MBFWA. Twelve divine gowns were displayed in an installation with live models and mannequins that brought her intricate detailed creations to life.
Emma Mulholland
Keeping with her adventurous and fun style, Emma Mulholland, delivered another playful collection titled ‘Risque Business’. The prints where vibrant and the clothing had a nod to the 80s with baggy shorts and bomber jackets. It was all about a relaxed style with bright neon hues.
Raffles Showcase
Showcasing the most accomplished alumni from the Raffles College of Design and Commerce Sydney and Raffles College of Higher Education in Singapore, the Raffles show was an eclectic mix of contemporary fashion with a twist for men and women. The designers showcased a great range of skill and technical ability to deliver garments that were refreshingly creative.
Jayson Brunsdon
You could practically feel the heat coming off of Jayson Brunsdon’s hot Rio-inspired collection. Glimmering metallics mixed with python prints and sequinned embellishment to create a sexy effect with cut-out details and plunging necklines considerably upping the temperature in the room. This was definitely a collection made for partying the night away.
Duvenage
Duvenage presented a collection brimming with juxtaposing prints, the look was feminine, fresh and fun. This Melbourne-based label brought a bright summer vibe to the runway with their colourful pieces in very wearable shapes.
Bianca Spender
Dark and moody, Bianca Spender’s collection was all about black and texture with leather, metallics and pailettes making for a modern range with a sexy edge. Silhouettes were feminine and bodycon with masculine tailoring on blazers and trousers adding a classic feel.
Betty Tran
After a promising MBFWA debut in 2013, Betty Tran was back this year with a collection of truly winsome evening gowns heavy on embellishments and lace. In a striking palette of primary colours and metallics with sheer panelling and lots of tulle these were dresses to be noticed in, complete with elaborate headpieces.
Swarovski
The world renowned crystal brand Swarovski made that runway sparkle during the last show of the night. It was a glittering showcase of jewel-toned garments perfectly accessorised with their fabulous jewellery and a great way to end a stellar line-up of shows.
