Lela Jacobs NZFW 2017

Lela Jacobs NZFW 2017

Look from Lela Jacobs New Zealand Fashion Week 2017 show.

From the minute we stepped inside the industrial Silo Six down at Wynyard Quarter we knew we were in for a treat. Intimate yet inclusive, the scene was set for Lela Jacobs NZFW show with musicians, cheese and drinks on hand.

For Autumn/Winter 2018, Jacobs offers her unique take on contemporary layering. Possum merino knitwear and a blend of Alpaca wool were key fabrics that will certainly be keeping us warm this winter in beautifully soft textures. Edwardian-inspired tailoring and draping offset her signature colour palette of greys, blacks and whites with royal blue a welcome addition to this season.

We loved the pairing of the sheer, chiffon-esque overcoats with the delicate wool blends and sculptured jackets. We also enjoyed Jacobs’s clever use of the layering, meaning you can take these pieces through to Spring or even Summer if you so fancy. In terms of beauty, models were shown in pared back makeup and minimal hair, to really keep the focus on the tailoring and detailing of this collection.

Tying in with the symmetry of the clothing, models went down the runway with sculpted cheekbones, courtesy of some terracotta powders and neutral, rosy pink lips. Being Idle Being was absolutely exquisite and we were suitably impressed with Lela Jacobs’s versatile approach to androgynous fashion.

Beauty notes: Pearlescent skin by Caitlin Lomas from M·A·C COSMETICS.

Soundtrack: A haunting percussion created by live musicians playing in the echoing silos.

Hot item: We kept thinking about those slouchy blue pieces that look so comfy.
