When it was announced last month that elegant designer Turet Knuefermann would be the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Presents designer and open New Zealand Fashion Week 2018, I knew we were in for an evening of sophistication. True to form, Knuefermann delivered a stunning show called “The Travel Edit” before a full house of fashion fans who eagerly watched every look that came down the runway. And what a runway it was with a gleaming convertible 1964 Mercedes-Benz SL 230 front and centre with the models gliding beside it.
Knuefermann showed a comprehensive range of black and gold hued contemporary pieces that were versatile and effortlessly chic. The designer has seamlessly mixed feminine and masculine elements for garments that felt of the moment yet timeless. Her refined range of glamorous evening gowns in glimmering sequins and draped silk were oh so covetable and demonstrated why Knuefermann is a go-to designer for the perfect evening dress. Asymmetric hems, plunging necklines and scooped backs made for eye-catching silhouettes that hug the body in the right places.
The designer’s winsome suiting also featured strongly on the runway as beautifully tailored jackets, sharply cut trousers and luxurious silk shirts were teamed with stilettos for maximum impact. These looks felt like the ultimate office to evening pieces that would take you wherever the night led you with ease and confidence. Let’s not forget that Knuefermann excels at delivering uncomplicated clothing that is aimed to empower the wearer which is exactly what she did tonight.
Among the daywear were some charming dressing with relaxed shapes that perfectly conveyed the holiday side of the travel concept. Snake print added an alluring layer while easy to wear jumpsuits and casually draped tops made this collection feel accessible. Knufermann closed with a wonderful python print strapless gown with trailing ruffled sleeves that summed up the stylish and modern feel of the range.
It was definitely a triumphant show for Turet Knufermann and Mercedes-Benz, and a stellar way to open New Zealand Fashion Week 2018.
