Kathryn Wilson NZFW 2017

Kathryn Wilson NZFW 2017

Finale at Kathryn Wilson’s New Zealand Fashion Week 2017 show.

Giant glittery-winged shoe emblems twinkled over the crowd as Kathryn Wilson took us on a jet-set journey on Air Kathryn, showcasing her current season as well as her Winter 2018 collection in an unforgettably dazzling show.

The show was opened with the toe-tapping vintage tune ‘Come Fly With Me’ that got us ready to step back in time and experience a whirlwind of sixties-inspired glam as models led by illustrator and creative Kelly Thompson took to the runway. The soundtrack then quickly revved up, blasting a classic Britney Spears jam ‘Toxic’ with models fittingly dressed in fun and flirty bright orange and bubble-gum pink, cap-sleeved air stewardess dresses, complete with captain’s hats, tiny white gloves and orange tassel earrings.

All attention was turned to the footwear sported by the models, who rocked a symphony of gorgeous sandals, sneakers, boots and high heels. The opening shoes were a pair of yellow slip-on sandals featuring two thick bands across the front and a square embroidered heel that was both simple and incredibly chic. We were later treated to more gorgeous sandals from her Summer 2017/18 collection featuring crossover straps, gold side buckles as well as gold detailed heels in colours perfect for summer such as pink, blue, monochromes, beige and metallics.

Mixed into the Summer styles, was the Winter 2018 collection that featured an assortment of loafers, boots, sneakers, pumps and sandals in a beautiful range of red, black, nude and white tones with sparkly splashes of silver and gold metallics. One unique material we loved was an eye-catching tortoise shell patent leather on a pair of heels and stiletto booties.

Also notable in this range was the beautiful metallic embellishments that adorned the shoes, giving the collection a fiercely glamorous and subtly edgy vibe. From loafers covered in large, flat-back pearls and gold flat-top studs, to booties dotted with tiny rounded silver studs, the shoes captivated our attention as they lit up the catwalk.

Some standout pieces we couldn’t keep our eyes off were pairs of low-heeled sandals in both silver and pink metallic leather from her Summer 18 collection. As for the Winter 18 collection, a pair of bronze mirrored square heel pumps got our hearts, quite literally, pumping as did a range of gorgeously embellished trainers and high top sneakers, which were decorated with touches of black, gold, tortoise and statement pearls.

The show went out with a glittery bang as gold confetti showered the crowd with sparkles, while the shoes made their last strut around the stage, leaving the audience full of inspiration and with beautiful shoe-filled wish lists.

Soundtrack: Classic pop jams from Blondie’s ‘One Way Or Another’ to Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’.
