FashioNZ's Five Minutes with Penelope Benson

How did you become model?

I took a year off university during my degree and wanted a change of scenery. I approached an agent after encouragement from family and friends.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Lots of things, it changed all the time. A marine biologist, fashion designer, actress.

Do you look back on anything and wished you'd done it differently?

Not particularly, I’m in a great place and position right now in my career so all the triumphs and mistakes along the way have still brought me here and I wouldn’t change that.

Do you have on style rule you always obey?

I always balance out my outfits for example, something fitted with something loose or if I choose a top that is covered I’ll wear it with shorts or a skirt to show some skin.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully still working hard ticking off more personal goals, travelling and fingers crossed be property owner.

What advice would I give to young girls?

Don’t worry so much! Enjoy being a teenager.

What style do you wish would come back in fashion?

I'm not concerned with what is and what's not in fashion, create your own style and wear what you want I say.

Describe a cringe outfit from your past?

Where do I start? The first thing that comes to mind is actually a cringe hair-do; I went blonde in 2005, seriously blonde. Needless to say it was awful and won’t be doing that ever again.

Finish this sentence.

You would never catch me wearing… kitten heels.
