Emilia Wickstead’s Fall 2015 collection on the runway at London Fashion Week.
Dunedin’s iD Fashion Week will add another successful international name to its rollcall of judges and designers this year when London-based designer Emilia Wickstead touches down in March for the 2016 event. Wickstead is Auckland-born but moved to Milan at 14 and later to London where she studied fashion at prestigious university Central Saint Martins which has many famous fashion alumni including Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney. Post graduation, she worked at Giorgio Armani, Proenza Schouler, Narciso Rodriguez and Vogue in New York and Milan before founding her own London-based label in 2008.
What began as a made-to-measure business has gone on to develop a major following and her feminine designs have been worn by Alexa Chung, Poppy Delevingne, Laura Bailey, Suki Waterhouse and Samantha Cameron, not to mention Wickstead’s most famous client – the Duchess of Cambridge, who wore Emilia Wickstead outfits during her New Zealand tour in 2014.
Since its inception in 2000, iD Fashion Week has hosted many of fashion’s greatest names including Zandra Rhodes, Hilary Alexander, Stephen Jones, Akira Isogawa, Lutz Huelle, Martin Grant and last year’s Queen of Vintage, Doris Raymond. iD Dunedin Fashion Week chair, Cherry Lucas, is thrilled to be bringing Wickstead to iD, with the support of sponsor airline Air New Zealand. “Emilia Wickstead’s chic and elegant designs have created an international following and we’re delighted to have her back in her home country showing at iD. From her very latest pieces from London Fashion Week to couture garments worn on the world’s red carpets, iD audiences will enjoy a spectacular fashion experience.”
Tickets for the iD International Emerging Designer Awards on Thursday 17 March and the iD Fashion Show on Friday 18 March and Saturday 19 March go on sale on Monday January 18 from Ticket Direct.
