WORLD at NZFW 2011
New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW), New Zealand’s only internationally focused fashion event, is getting ready to build its catwalks for the 12th year and is now just 12weeks away.
Dates for the week-long event are set; with buyers, media and the fashion industry getting ready to take their seats, as New Zealand’s top designers showcase their Autumn / Winter 2013 collections to the world from Tuesday 4 to Friday 7 September.
NZFW will then be opened to the public for Fashion Weekend, on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September, allowing the fashion lovers a chance to see, buy and engage with their fashion industry heroes.
The event returns to its new home in the vibrant hub of Auckland City, the state of the art Viaduct Events Centre, which saw more than 40,000 people walk through its doors to enjoy a very slick and successfully run event in 2011.
NZFW also returns with a strong contingent of sponsors and the confirmed backing of Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED), which Managing Director Dame Pieter Stewart says is “a very positive show of support for the event”.
ATEED has earmarked NZFW as a cornerstone event on the Auckland calendar, one which delivers significant financial return to the city while raising its profile internationally and has confirmed its ongoing support to ensure the event’s continued growth.
NZFW Brand Manager Myken Stewart says the team is working full steam to make sure 2012’s event is the best yet and have been buoyed by the recent fantastic news about Managing Director, Dame Pieter Stewart.
“Each year, putting on an event as big as NZFW is a huge but rewarding challenge. We’ve got some talented new members in the NZFW team and everyone has been energised by the recognition Pieter has received, being made a Dame in last week’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list. We’re all really proud of her and it’s fantastic to see her being recognized for her years of hard work in fashion, alongside education and health,” said Stewart.
Designers showing at NZFW can be confident that a strong contingent of international media and buyers are once again expected to make their way to New Zealand to take in the fashion on show.
The list of participating designers will be confirmed four weeks before NZFW, with media registrations opening in the first week of July.
Other key events in the build up to the week include the NZFW Designer Bootcamp, which sees New Generation designers given much needed mentoring and insights in the business side of the fashion industry.
With much to do in the 12 weeks before the 12th NZFW kicks off, designers, stylists, show producers, the NZFW team and thousands of other fashion industry players who make NZFW come alive will be busy pulling together the best show yet.
