Eugenie NZFW 2016

Eugenie finale on the runway at New Zealand Fashion Week 2016.

It is definitely a week of debutantes at New Zealand Fashion Week this year, with so many emerging labels taking to the runway to display their talents, including Eugenie designed by Elizabeth Wilson. The Auckland-based label was established in 2013, after Wilson spent some time as a design assistant at Karen Walker honing her craft. You can’t help but wonder if Walker’s quirky style rubbed off a bit on Wilson whose Autumn/Winter 2017 collection was heavy on the denim and featured playful styling.

Called 0800-Venus-Envy, the collection was a contemporary take on womenswear which featured feminine florals paired with denim, shimmering metallics and printed tees and sweaters. The berets, slinky styling and bobbed wigs added to the French feel while the casually untucked shirting and off the shoulder tops had a nonchalant appeal. Denim featured in an array of washes from pale to dark on tailored jackets and mini-skirts that had 90s references while the skinny jeans kept things modern and of the moment.

Ruched thigh high boots were alluring and perfectly teamed with flirtacious velvet dresses in slip styles and off the shoulder silhouettes. The colour palette of burgundy, rust, grey, blue and black was livened up by pops of lemon and orange. Deadly Ponies stunning new season Grande Familia bags added further doses of colour and upped the luxury factor of Eugenie’s confident runway showing.

Beauty Notes: It was all about burgundy eyes with a “90s cool girl with street style” look created by senior makeup artist Kiekie Stanners for MAC.

Hot Item: We have a renewed love of denim jackets after this show although we’re definitely keen on the stunning slip dresses too.
