New Season Autumn Essentials 2018

Amplifier Crop Jacket, $1699.00 by Stolen Girlfriends Club (left), Trackie Jacket, $229 by Kate Sylvester (centre), Edie Anorak, $380 from Lonely Hearts (right).

The Jacket
A jacket is the simplest addition to your autumn wardrobe to aid you in the cooler parts of the day, and we are quite spoilt for choice with plenty of new season arrivals. Leather jackets often pop up on wardrobe essential lists and it’s easy to see why, the piece epitomises the art of modern dressing, by way of pairing it with denim or throwing one over a feminine dress. We absolutely rate this style by Stolen Girlfriends Club with its oversized silhouette and shearling detailing; the ‘Amplifier Jacket’ comes in a cropped length making it perfect to match with high waisted styles. With a nod to this season’s trend of athletic inspired sportswear is this red bomber jacket by Kate Sylvester pictured above in the centre, there are indeed matching track pants, though we really love it worn over this floral dress which would be perfect on its own for those still balmy afternoons. Go for practicality with this rainproof anorak by Lonely Hearts, we just love its sweet shade of pink, a sure-fire way to cheer you up on a grey and drizzly day.

Check Trench Coat, $99.99 from Glassons (left), Surrealism Trench, $1200 by Karen Walker (centre), Bond Trench, $539 by Moochi (right).

The Trench
A trench coat is often heralded as a wardrobe staple, magazines will inform you time and time again of the piece’s versatility and classic qualities and they do prove a strong case. Generally lightweight which makes for the perfect cover up, a trench can look great worn belted or left open to reveal your outfit underneath. Opt for sophistication and pair it with a dress and heels or dress one down in a more casual tone with a t-shirt and jeans; you’ll always look put together in an effortless way. Glassons have put a fun spin on the piece made in this season’s must have mirco-houndstooth print, pictured above on the left, how fab is the whole outfit with the sweet babydoll cami and flared cropped trousers? Karen Walker has mastered the trench design throughout the years, putting her signature exuberant spin on the piece time and time again; her ‘Surrealism Trench’ features ruffled sleeve cuffs that are detachable. Embodying that casual-chic-cool look is Moochi and they have channelled all of those sentiments into their version of a trench, the ‘Bond Trench’ has a semi-relaxed fit that also comes with a detachable belt tie to cinch at the waist to create a strong tailored silhouette.

Mem Cardi, $400 from Marle (left), Ivy Rib Dress, $280 from Lonely Hearts (centre), Clare Cashmere Sweater, $549 from Juliette Hogan (right).

The Knit
Lightweight knits are another great option for trans-seasonal dressing. Look for natural fibres if possible, they will pill less and last longer (and feel so lush on your skin, trust us!) making for a great investment piece. We absolutely love this long line cardigan by knitwear experts – Marle, crafted in the label’s signature mohair/wool yarn, the oversized silhouette is bound to go with a myriad of outfits to carry you through to the winter. This rose hued cotton knit dress by Lonely Hearts is ever so elegant and will make autumn dressing a real treat, it’s also available in a pretty periwinkle blue. Quite possibly the height of luxury in the knitwear spectrum is cashmere, which Juliette Hogan has embraced with her trademark simple yet modern touch, her ‘Clare’ design features a funnel neck for warmth and has just the right amount of slouch through the body to be tucked into skirts or trousers.

Boyfriend Jean, $59.99 from Glassons (left), Stevie Jean, $199.00 from RUBY (centre), Frayed Girlfriend Jean, $59.99 from Glassons (right).

The Jean
Denim jeans are classic, easy to style, and comfortable (and warm!), making them an ideal canvas to work your autumn wardrobe around. While the skinny jean remains a firm favourite with many, early trendsetters have long been pushing the boyfriend and the mom styles, follow suit and change up your look to embrace the looser fit, they can be just as flattering if you find the right pair. This light wash boyfriend style pair from Glassons (pictured on the left) look great with the cuff at the hem, and is an easy way to update your everyday look, as are these high waisted ‘Stevie’ jeans from Ruby. For those who still favour a skinny cut, there are so many variations on the market now with neat modern updates-think stepped hems, track pant style stripes, and ornate embellishments. Frayed hems are another fun design detail, as seen on these jeans from Glassons pictured on the right.

Duke Ankle Boot, $419.90 from La Tribe (left), Iris Boot, $369 from Kathryn Wilson (centre), Rae Ankle Boot, $360 from Mi Piaci (right).

The Boot
To complete your outfit, consider a pair of sturdy ankle boots. Footwear label La Tribe who are fast becoming a firm favourite with many, bring a fresh bohemian aesthetic to their designs as exhibited in their best selling ‘Duke’ boot, which is designed in a way that the studded holster panel is removable, enabling the wearer to have two looks in one. How amazing are these silver heeled boots by Kathryn Wilson? A fun way to add a pop of interest to your outfit, the ‘Iris’ also comes in gold, black and tan. Mi Piaci have gone from strength to strength in recent collections, their offering for Autumn/Winter is extensive with a plethora of interesting footwear shapes and designs in their range (shout out to the design team!), we especially love their ‘Rae’ boot with its flared metallic block heel.
