Hundreds of fashion lovers elbowed their way towards clothing racks heaving with high profile fashion labels at rock-bottom prices, along with designer cocktails and free pampering, as yesterday’s Di Lusso iD Designer Sale kicked off the beginning of the 2013 iD Dunedin Fashion Week.

Now in its 14th year, the global fashion event combines a week of fashion shows, events, tours, public talks, and exhibitions, culminating in the must-see iD International Emerging Designer Awards on Thursday night and the iD Dunedin Fashion Shows on Friday and Saturday nights.

Every year the event grows bigger and better, attracting more international talent to the Awards’ runway, while securing incredible global guests – from Zandra Rhodes to Akira Isogawa. This year, UK-based celebrity milliner, Stephen Jones, will show for the first time in New Zealand – with 33 of his amazing creations (to celebrate 33 years in business) on the Southern Hemisphere’s longest catwalk at the Dunedin Railway Station.

New Zealand luxury women’s designer Yvonne Bennetti, and a catalogue of New Zealand fashion icons, including NOM*d, Tanya Carlson, Mild-Red, Charmaine Reveley, Tamsin Cooper, DADA Vintage, Company of Strangers, MisteR, and more will also feature at the Railway shows.

Yesterday’s Di Lusso iD Designer Sale (sponsored by Dunedin’s Di Lusso Bar) held at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery gave fashion lovers a taste of the who’s who of Dunedin fashion with designer labels on offer including NOM*d, Charmaine Reveley, Jane Sutherland, Suture, Phizacklea, Emily Kerse and Claire Bloom, alongside exclusive fashion stores Plume, DADA Boutique, Waughs and Arthur Barnett. New to the sale this year was Christchurch-based jewellery designer Debra Fallowfield, whose beautiful handmade pieces were popular with the crowds, online store www.zipmeup.co.nz and fashion label Gemma.

“The place was buzzing from as soon as we opened the doors to the public,” says designer and iD Dunedin Fashion Week Committee member Charmaine Reveley, who organises the annual event.

“With Di Lusso Bar on board this year, the event was better than ever – with our customers enjoying incredible cocktails, mocktails, bubbly and free pampering from the Revlon and Redken teams from AliMcd Makeup School and Aart on St Andrew.”

Di Lusso Bar owner Rachel Jones agrees.

“It was a fabulous event to be part of. The Di Lusso Pamper Lounge was incredibly popular from the start of the day, right through until the end. Pampering, bubbles, cocktails and shopping – it’s the perfect combination.”
