New Zealand Fashion Week 2017 is just five weeks away now and the highly anticipated designer line-up has just been released. The event is in its 17th consecutive year and returns from August 28th – September 3rd at the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland. This year will see 86 different designers and brands deliver their collections across over 40 shows with the two onsite runways joined this year by a new installation space. NZFW’s new trade space will also help labels showcase their offerings to both local and international buyers during the week.
The line-up itself is an exciting mix of established and emerging brands with NZFW supporting designers in different ways from the beginning of their careers. While the list of international delegates coming to NZ for the event includes buyers and showrooms from the USA, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia as well as more unusual spots like Tel Aviv. NZFW has also attracted a growing list of media and influencers from the USA and Australia.
“After many insightful conversations with designers since the last event, we have made strong inroads into the US market again, a market our local designers had shied away from for the past few years. While we always pride ourselves on the calibre of our delegates, this year we are especially proud of the list we have put together and that has been reflected in the positive response from the local fashion industry,” says Dame Pieter Stewart, NZFW Strategic Director and Founder.
Zambesi will open the week as the Mercedes-Benz Presents designer and they are joined by other beloved brands like Kate Sylvester, WORLD, Hailwood, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Federation and Juliette Hogan during the week. This year marks exciting milestones for several brands with both Tanya Carlson and Huffer celebrating a remarkable 20 years in business this year, not to mention Salasai who will be celebrating a decade this year. Tanya Carlson will be making a welcome return to the runway after an absence of ten years and her show will no doubt be one of the most hotly anticipated of the week. Kathryn Wilson is also returning to the runway this year and her footwear focused show will likely be another creative effort from the talented designer.
Among the newer designers showing this year are Maggie Marilyn, Wynn Hamlyn and Rachel Mills who will be utilising the event to grow their businesses reach. Four group shows will help showcase the talents of emerging designers with the New Generation show, New Zealand Post Miromoda Show, NZFW Choose Wool Showcase and NZFW Graduate Show presented by Brother set to deliver some spectacular creations.
NZFW 2017 certainly has a strong lineup and with so many exciting names on the list we can’t wait for the event to begin in a few weeks time. Stay tuned to FashioNZ for reviews and galleries for each show during NZFW but in the meantime here is the full list of designers showing this year:
