Celebrated leathergoods brand, Deadly Ponies, launch their Spring/Summer ’20 collection in stores and online today and in doing so change up their collection calendar. The brand usually drop four collections a year but after some reflection on the future of fashion and in keeping with their sustainability principles they’ll instead be releasing two seasonal collections a year. This particular Spring/Summer collection will comprise of three parts, with limited drops over the next couple of months, each having different tones and ideas that differentiate them but in keeping with the theme.
“We took inspiration from the iconic medieval Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries for SS20; looking at deep rich burgundy shades, earthy tones, and chainmail adornments as a starting point. From there, we wanted to create something that was a little more electric and vibrant as the seasonal collection progresses,” says Creative Director, Liam Bowden.
Part I is out now and features regal bordeaux and crisp birch hues that kick-off the exploration of Deadly Ponies’ theme. This drop explores a new texture with the release of the brand’s first hi-gloss croc which is particularly luscious in bordeaux. The season begins with some eye-catching new shapes and updates of favourite styles with the addition of solid brass chain detailing as a feature point. Mr Minimese, Mr Mini Panther, Mr Micro Chainmail and Mr Micro Gator Gang are among the new arrivals that have been reimagined in different sizes, while Mr Panther, Mr Sling and a refreshed Mr Cub Chain round out Part I.
Arriving in October is Part II which takes a cue from the glorious azure hues in the works of French artist Yves Klein, and juxtaposes complex silhouettes and eclectic textures. While for Part III, Deadly Ponies worked with highlights of custom crushed metallic and beautiful marigold tones which amplify the existing tapestry shades of Part I & II, the idea being that they create something more mythical yet modern. The collection features a new custom print, Rivera Python, which perfectly complements the hues with luxurious texture to complete the season.
“Our ‘gator’ family has been reimagined in colour for the first time – something our customers have been asking us to do for a while,” adds Liam. “The contrast of the brass zip teeth and hardware against the marigold hue is a firm favourite, and brings new life to one of our most enduring styles.”
