Deadly Ponies have released the brand’s Summer ’21 collection which is a celebration of textural innovation. Creative Director Liam Bowden and the Deadly Ponies team have been exploring new materials and and a beautiful sunset-inspired palette this season. Key hues include soft terracotta and oceanic atlantic alongside classic black with fresh textures adding a covetable appeal to the range. Drawing inspiration from balmy summer nights, Deadly Ponies have utilised silk taffeta to add an elevated shimmer for evening pieces, other featured textures include terracotta python and a custom rush weave which feels suitably tropical.
“Across our Spring Summer season, we are really pushing the boundaries with our exploration of colour and detail,” says Founder and Creative Director, Liam Bowden. “Injections of suede, python, silk and rush create unexpected finishes from our traditional buttery soft leather. It is all about the details this season.”
The design team looked to Charlotte Perriand’s House of a Young Man, 1935, for inspiration which considers the ideal studio space at the time; with terracotta tiles, rush chairs, modernist art and unique leathers placed thoughtfully throughout the interior. That rich colour palette translated beautifully into the collection with the brand considering each element in Perriand’s design when creating the collection, with a Deadly Ponies twist of course.
Continuing their use of talented makers, the brand created a custom, in-house silk scarf design influenced by the artworks hanging in Charlotte Perriand’s A House for the Young Man, 1935, and tapped a local, not-for-profit women’s organisation near Deadly Ponies’ atelier in Chiang Mai, Thailand to craft the rush totes. The collective developed a custom design, shape and weave with their small team, carefully handcrafting every tote with unique techniques for the collection. A featured piece of the collection, the Rush Tote is available in a range of sizes and in black or natural rush for a holiday inspired feel.
Deadly Ponies fans will be charmed by the transformation of favourite style Mr Cub Chain which features an oversized and exaggerated chain adornment. The chain is crafted from aluminium to remain sustainable yet still lightweight and durable, with a brass finish to sit cohesively with the brand’s signature hardware. In line with the brand’s circular goals the metal used is able to be melted down and repurposed.
“We’ve designed the supersized, chunky chain to feel familiar yet really different at the same time, and will be a limited edition for SS21. It feels both nostalgic and modern” adds Liam Bowden.
Deadly Ponies’ SS21 Summer collection is available online now and in all Deadly Ponies stores.
