Deadly Ponies made their Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia debut yesterday with a captivating show that presented their Resort ‘19 collection entitled ‘Devotees’. The brand took to the runway before a full house at MBFWA’s home venue Carriageworks, with a high profile guest list including fellow Kiwi designer Karen Walker.

The collection itself explored the many practises of devotion and adoration especially in relation to our obsession with inanimate objects. Many beliefs have different talismans which were the jumping off point from a design point of view and inspired the colour palette, silhouettes, and crafted embellishments of the Devotees collection.

For this range Deadly Ponies included a capsule of PVC products, the idea being that each framed a view of something once private. “In the new season silhouettes, PVC features heavily as a means of presenting a second skin over signature pieces, protecting and reverring the objects within, creating almost transportable temples of modern day craftsmanship” says Creative Director Liam Bowden.

For the runway presentation itself models were clad in pale pink and lilac scarf print outfits with cobalt and pale pink trousers that perfectly complemented the Deadly Ponies bags and accessories they carried. It’s not easy to present a runway show where the focus is the accessories but the brand pulled it off with aplomb. The spectacular set featuring an Olive tree hung upside down and lit with purple not to mention the clever installation of bags helped set the scene for a stellar debut. The collection itself will be released in November 2018.

In celebration of their debut MBFWA debut a ‘shop-the-runway’ mini collection from Deadly Ponies is now available online. It includes the Wilde Scarf and Bridles which represent a sneak peek of the brand’s soon-to-be-released silk scarf collection. Deadly Ponies silk scarf collection is called Silks and will be available from 10am on Wednesday 23rd May, 2018.

Congratulations to Deadly Ponies on their brilliant MBFWA debut.
