Get your glad rags New Zealand, as the best-loved kiwi vintage festival, The Very Vintage Day Out (VVDO) is swinging back into Auckland for 2015. Celebrating its fourth year in action, this year’s event promises more fabulous all-day entertainment, shopping, activities and fun for everyone with a new twist for 2015; the festivities continue Saturday night and Sunday making for The Very Vintage Weekend!
Alexandra Park will again step back in time to embrace vintage culture as the VVDO brings together the best vintage goods from around NZ with everything from fashion to homewares, beauty and knick-knacks among the delights offered by over fifty stalls. Charming the crowds will be an array of accomplished talent performing Swing, Charleston, Jazz and Rockabilly live on stage. A tempting high tea will also be on offer providing attendees the opportunity for delicious treats whilst taking in the festivities.
Gracing the main stage during the afternoon of the VVDO will be a vintage fashion show with a stunning range of authentic vintage and reproduction garments on display, most of which will be available for sale directly after the show too. For the film buffs, this year sees a screening of award-winning vintage documentary ‘Paper Dolls’ about pinup culture in Australia during the Second World War.
The popular photo safari will also be returning with budding and professional models and photographers paired up to make the most of the vintage car display outside. And as if that wasn’t enough there will also be workshops in vintage hair and makeup by Phoenix cosmetics, go-go and swing dancing as well as burlesque. Attendees are also encouraged to get into the spirit of the day with great spot prizes for the best dressed ticket holders, a pamper parlour is on offer on-site to help everyone look their best too.
Headlining this year’s VVDO is the incredible Sal Valentine & The Babyshakes who are widely regarded as one of the finest live acts in the country. They will be bringing their special brand of vintage-inspired rhythm and blues performed by lead vocalist Sal Valentine, who is ably accompanied by accomplished vocalists Chelsea Prastiti and Hannah Grace. No doubt these talented singers and their brilliant band will have the VVDO crowd up and dancing to their unique sound in no time.
The coveted crown of Miss Pinup New Zealand 2015 will be contested later in the afternoon with ten lovely ladies from around the country displaying their vintage-inspired skills to compete for the title. This year’s judges include last year’s headline act and Silver Scroll 2014 winner, songstress Tami Neilson, as well as returning judge and gorgeous international pinup Ruby Rabbit alongside owner of Decadia Vintage and Creative Director of Glory Days magazine Rose Jackson.
There’s definitely something to entertain everyone at The Very Vintage Day Out 2015 and the VVDO team are thrilled to be expanding into a weekend event this year. More details on further developments to the event will be released in coming weeks.
