The Aloha shirt is synonymous with Hawaii and is proudly worn by Hawaiians as a symbol of their culture. Sonia Sly from Radio New Zealand’s My Heels Are Killing Me podcast chatted to Te Papa’s curator Claire Regnault and Sonya Withers, an intern who traveled to Hawaii last year as part of a research trip on the Aloha shirt. They discuss the rich and complex history of the Aloha shirt and discuss Te Papa’s carefully curated collection.
