Liam‘s new collection for Autumn 2020 is a beautiful celebration of friendship with designer Emily Miller-Sharma creating a range inspired by her relationship with her long-time friend Laura Taylor. Using their friendship as a starting point, the collection also reflects the creative nature of their careers (Laura is a model and stylist) and the joy of playing with pairings in colour, texture, and silhouette.
The collection is appropriately titled Laura & Me with the pair’s friendship beginning in high school before Laura moved back to her native Brazil. The duo bonded over their love of art and design, and began creating work together, while they have lived parallel lives in different countries they have never lost touch. Their mutual admiration saw the two work on the range when Laura briefly returned to New Zealand and she features as the model in these gorgeous lookbook images.
Emily has designed many elegant, modern collections over the years and this range features a playful messiness that comes in the form of chaotic, colourful prints that are eye-catching and fresh. The main tone of the range is vivid green with key hues of cucumber, sage and moss featuring alongside rust and jacaranda, ivory and jade, navy and bottle green. There’s an intensity to the colours in this collection which adds confidence to every piece and helps tell the story of a spirited friendship.
The pieces themselves offer the chic modernity that Liam is known for with stylish tops, skirts, blazers, jumpsuits and dresses that take the wearer from the office into the weekend. When it came to the occasion pieces Emily was inspired by the style and silhouettes of 1930s eveningwear making for some charming daywear and eveningwear that is truly special. When it came to styling the range Laura and Emily continued to play with juxtaposition which results in unexpectedly brilliant outfits. Laura & Me is a fitting celebration of a wonderful friendship and offers Liam fans a magical range to create beautiful stories of their own with.
