Looks from Carlson’s “Anjelica” Winter 2017 collection. Images supplied.
It’s easy to picture Tanya Carlson’s winsome garments being worn by the world’s most beautiful women and this season Carlson chose iconic actress, director and former model Anjelica Huston as her stylish muse. Carlson’s Winter 2017 collection “Anjelica” is inspired by Huston’s early years in Ireland before the talented beauty went on to become an acclaimed actress and director.
The seventies aesthetic of Carlson’s collection perfectly encapsulates the glamorous, romantic days of Huston’s youth when her striking looks meant she quickly became a rising star and modeled for celebrated photographer Richard Avedon. The flared trousers and wrap dresses that were at the peak of their popularity in the seventies are charmingly utilised for this collection in modern fabrics. While the pussy bow neckline and keyhole details on gauzy blouses and sweet dresses reference that free-spirited era but still feel of the moment and relevant to today’s woman.
A lingering look at the designer’s divine St Cleran’s dress (pictured in dandelion second row below) makes it apparent that the young Huston would have looked incredible in it. The bias-cut slip dress is effortlessly elegant and a clear match for a long-legged starlet but equally so a confident contemporary woman. The genius in Carlson’s creations is in the impeccable cutting and tailoring which makes each piece sit flatteringly and just so. There is no mistaking that the accomplished designer is a master of her craft as it’s evident in each piece she designs.
It’s impossible not to fall in love with everything about this collection, from the lovely hues of mauve, emerald and dandelion to the delightful floral prints and delicately pretty lace. Carlson fans will adore the chic suiting and refined dresses that are perfect for work, as well as the graceful evening wear and more casual pieces that will make every day a sublime one.
