The first gorgeous new arrivals from Carlson‘s Autumn/Winter 2021 collection are available in stores and online now with all the perfect pieces to complement your winter wardrobe. Designer Tanya Carlson was inspired by the shared experience of the nationwide lockdown last year, and has translated those feelings into a collection that takes you on a journey from isolation to reconnection.
“During lockdown that desire to stay safe and cocooned in warmth and comfort really emerged and we wanted to respond to that with a renewed focus on our cosy wool knits like our Belle sweater, winter colours and beautiful warm coats,” says Tanya Carlson.
“There was a feeling of isolation among so many of us during that time and we wanted to find a way of reconnecting. We began posting a lot of our archive pieces from our 20 years in business on social media and the response was huge. So many people had special memories of the time or place the garment was worn. And then we were lucky enough to have lockdown lift across Aotearoa. The collection shifts to a celebration of renewed freedom with bold, uplifting colours, movement in shapes – full skirts and big sleeves – and luxe fabrics. Overseas weddings and international travel may be on hold for now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t dress up and reconnect with our freedom.” [Editor’s note: this quote was given before the current lockdown in Auckland].
Dresses are always a Carlson staple, beautifully demonstrating Tanya Carlson’s exceptional skill as a designer, and for this season they range from bias-cut tea dresses in charming florals and luscious velvet to perfectly draped tie-front styles in tones of orchid and cornflower. Those looking for a stand-out coat will love the pink double-breasted coat with longline panels and a wide lapel, with ties at the waist. It’s cheerful pink hue is a wonderful antidote to winter’s grey weather. There’s also cocooning wool knits and soft organic sweat-shirting to keep you cosy in suitably autumnal tones of toffee, ginger and Rātā. Adding a dose of glamour is shimmering black and gold pinstripe lurex and metallic silk which feature on pleated pants, wrap around blouses a bomber and padded puffer jackets.
“The conversations we had online inspired us to bring back some favourites from our archive and reinvent them. The Chrysalis (puffer) jacket is a repeat of a favourite from 2007,” adds Tanya. “There are other repeats from recent seasons, like our popular Tui top, which we’ve redone in the lurex. There’s a lot to enjoy and we hope our customers will love it.”
