CAMILLA AND MARC have launched the “Ovaries. Talk About Them.” campaign, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at bringing a world-first early detection test for ovarian cancer to clinical trials within the next two years.
The campaign is deeply personal for the brand’s founders, Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman, who tragically lost their mother, Pam, to ovarian cancer when they were just 11 and 13 years old. Despite being the deadliest form of female cancer, there has been little progress in its detection and treatment over the past three decades.
In just five years, “Ovaries. Talk About Them.” has become one of the most impactful philanthropic efforts in the Australian fashion industry. Thanks to the campaign’s generous supporters, over $1.7 million has been raised, directly funding the work of Professor Caroline Ford, Dr. Kristina Warton, and their team at the UNSW Gynaecological Cancer Research Group.
Spearheading this year’s campaign are familiar faces such as Naomi Watts, Georgia Fowler and Mia Healey.
@camillaandmarc Naomi Watts leads this year’s Ovaries. Talk About Them. advocates film. A fierce advocate for women’s health – Naomi stands behind making an early detection test for ovarian cancer, a reality. Right now, there are millions of women around the world facing the deadliest female cancer, ovarian cancer. Yet still there is no test. Overlooked, dismissed, and ignored for too long. This ends now. Imagine if you could go to your doctor and get a routine test every year? We are so close. Our aim is to get the world’s first DNA based early detection blood test for ovarian cancer to clinical trials. On behalf of all women. There is no time to wait. Are you ready to change history? Join us. #OvariesTalkAboutThem
The ultimate goal of CAMILLA AND MARC is within reach: getting an early detection test for ovarian cancer to clinical trials. The UNSW research team has made significant progress, developing a world-first, unique 3-target signature capable of detecting all types of ovarian cancer. With continued support, these next few years will be critical in advancing this life-saving research.
This week, CAMILLA AND MARC unveiled their 2024 ‘Ovaries. Talk About Them.’ limited edition unisex and children’s capsule. This year’s collection features typography artwork designed in-house by Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman. The design is simple yet powerful, using childlike handwriting to evoke a sense of innocence, serving as a poignant reminder of the importance of early detection for future generations. The capsule, featuring a bold red and white colour scheme, includes a range of t-shirts, hoodies, and caps.
Creative Director Camilla Freeman-Topper expressed her pride in the recent advancements, stating, “The breakthroughs in early detection testing have been extraordinary. We are immensely proud of the UNSW team for their tireless efforts and grateful to everyone who has supported our ‘Ovaries. Talk About Them.’ campaign. Without this funding, we would not have reached this significant milestone. Ovaries have been overlooked for too long, and millions continue to be affected each year without a reliable test. It’s simply not good enough. My mother deserved better, and so do we all.”
Marc Freeman added, “The development of the world’s first 3-target signature for detecting early stages of ovarian cancer is a groundbreaking achievement in Australian medical science. Today, this test is the only DNA-based method globally to have reached such an advanced stage in ovarian cancer detection. This innovation brings hope for improving the prognosis of this devastating disease through early detection.”
