Designer Caitlin Crisp will showcase her eponymous brand’s Season Five collection in her upcoming New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) 2021 show on August 24th. Caitlin made quite an impression when she debuted in the Graduate Show at NZFW 2018 with her eye-catching designs featuring ruffles, feathers and gingham. She next caught the country’s attention as a designer contestant on Project Runway New Zealand in late 2018, which saw her upbeat personality, hard work and charming style take her through to sixth place in the competition.

Caitlin launched her own label in 2019 with her Season One collection and has gained a loyal customer base since then who love her sophisticated and joyful take on fashion. Each subsequent collection has seen the designer go from strength to strength with popular styles regularly selling out quickly. Caitlin’s return to NZFW this year will be her first solo show and it is set to be one of the most highly anticipated shows of the week.

We caught up with Caitlin to find out why she decided to show at NZFW 2021, what we can expect to see at her presentation and what NZFW’s 20th anniversary means to the industry?

What made you decide to do New Zealand Fashion Week this year and what are you most looking forward to about your first solo show?
It was an opportunity I couldn’t miss, Fashion Week this year co-insides perfectly with the launch of our Season 5 collection. I am very excited to showcase the collection at NZFW, an event that was a huge help when it came to launching my label in the beginning.

Can you tell us a bit about what to expect from your show and what inspired the collection you’ll be presenting?
The collection itself is very “CC”, you can expect frills, florals and fun everyday pieces mixed with a few very special statement pieces!

Every designer needs a supportive team to help them get everything done, can you tell us about your team and the people and partnerships that are helping bring your show to life?
Absolutely, it takes a village! I have Laura and Lara working with me on the brand every day who in turn play a key role in making this show happen. The NZFW team themselves are incredibly supportive and I wouldn’t be doing a fashion show without them.

What is the first thing you’ll do after your show ends?
Celebrate with a glass of bubbles! (or two)…

New Zealand Fashion Week is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year what does the event mean to the local fashion industry?
We have been privileged to have an event like NZFW to continuously put a spotlight on the local fashion industry and bring us together over the years.

What would you like to see from the next 20 years of New Zealand Fashion Week?
More of the same, I think every year there has been such a great balance of introducing new designers and celebrating those who already firmly hold a strong brand presence in the industry.
