Designer Caitlin Crisp was set to stage her first solo show at New Zealand Fashion Week a few weeks ago but with the event cancelled Caitlin decided to go ahead with an intimate runway event. The elegant affair was held at Caitlin Crisp’s light-filled space in Auckland’s CBD which turned out to be the perfect size for a smaller but perfectly formed show.

Adhering to the current Covid Protection Framework, the event utilised the vaccination pass system to ensure a safe experience for everyone involved. The show was held during the week that would have been NZFW and it was a pleasure to be enjoying a runway show after what has felt like a long time without them. There was a bubbling atmosphere as delighted guests awaited the show to start and from the first sophisticated look – a tailored pink blazer dress – it was clear that this was going to be a considered and confident collection from the brand.

A sense of joyfulness has always shone through in Caitlin Crisp’s collections, the designer herself is an optimist and known for her happy nature. This collection, which is the brand’s sixth, demonstrated that love for life in her choice of a sublime colour palette with charming pinks and greens alongside appealing neutrals in caramel tones with classic black and white. The playful shorts and mini-dresses progressed into floor-sweeping full dresses, chic suiting and silky pieces including pyjamas that skimmed the model’s frames.

“I designed this collection when there was only light at the end of the tunnel,” says Caitlin Crisp. “I was envisioning myself sipping coconut margaritas in the late autumnal sun and imagining what I’d be wearing. Each piece is a reflection of my happiness to be there in that moment capturing that light-hearted spirit.”

Caitlin Crisp has noted that Autumn is her favourite season and this collection is a definitely an elevated take on transeasonal dressing with a beautiful use of texture and silhouettes that have an elegant modernity. There’s pieces here that will appeal to women of many different ages, with accessible yet luxurious styles that will endure to be timeless wardrobe staples.

The runway show itself closed with a gorgeous bridal look complete with a voluminous skirt, plunging neckline and trailing veil that was a wonderful finishing touch and an ode to how couture shows always used to finish with a bridal outfit. While she has yet to officially introduce bridalwear into her range, Caitlin has created several custom-made wedding dresses for clients and we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s an area of her business she expands on in future. For now we’d be happy with to get our hands on this delightful new collection.

Caitlin Crisp’s Season six collection launches online and at selected stockists on 25th February.
